A dentist is a medical professional qualified in practicing dentistry. There are different types of dentist, but in general they practice prevention, diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired diseases of the mouth, teeth, jaws and associated tissues.

Depending on the nature of the intervention, the dentist may be required to practice dentistry in a hospital service, stomatology or operating room. A significant proportion of dentists are also employed either in private practice or in health structures such as Public Hospital (dentistry service), private clinics, care centers (mutual or communal) or military health care.
